Accepting Applications for an Administrative Assistant and Public Works Employees



The St. John Police Department is seeking qualified career minded applicants to work in our fast paced and exciting Police Department. Our Town is growing and expanding daily and police services are in ever-increasing demand. The Administrative Assistant is a vital key in the continued success of our administration.

Administrative Assistant

Classification: Full-time Police Department, non-sworn

Salary: Hourly rate, not to exceed $26.24 per hour, based on experience and qualifications, paid bi-weekly

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Benefits: Health insurance is available and vacation and sick time are earned. A pension program is provided by the Indiana Public Employee’s Retirement Fund

Minimum Qualifications: High school graduate or GED. At least three years of administrative support and or customer service experience.

Description: The Administrative Assistant performs a wide variety of general secretarial and administrative support activities, working closely with the Chief of Police and the administrative staff of the Police Department.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Administrative Assistant is responsible for maintaining security and confidentiality of records including but not limited to: generating and producing analytical and statistical reports, typing researching and proofreading a wide variety of standard and original reports, letters, memoranda, correspondence newsletters and charts, performing general bookkeeping duties, ordering and purchasing supplies and services, and transcribing minutes of meetings as necessary.

Required Skills: The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and have the ability to handle confidential information in a professional and sensitive manner. Must be able to type at a speed necessary for successful job performance. Must be proficient with general office equipment, including computers, software, telephone, calculator, shredder, copier and laminator. Must have an excellent knowledge of the English language, including spelling, grammar and punctuation, and understanding of the principles of general business correspondence. Must be able to meet deadlines and file documents and reports, including state and federal reports as necessary. The candidate must have a clear understanding of the requirements of the Indiana Open Door Law and the requirements related to public access to records.

Certifications: Have or be able to obtain (within six months of employment) certification from the Indiana State Police, Indiana Data and Communications Section as a full operator.

Applications: Applications are available 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Monday through Friday at the St. John Police Department, 11033 W. 93rd Avenue, St. John, Indiana 46373 beginning on Monday, April 9, 2018.

Completed applications must be returned to the St. John Police Department before 4:00 PM on Friday May 11, 2018. Applications received after this date and time will not be accepted.

Public Works Employee

The Town of St. John is currently accepting applications for a position in Public Works Department. The position is entry level, and is Full-Time non-exempt.

All interested individuals should possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and have some experience in the construction industry. Must also have or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.

This position carries a competitive hourly wage and includes: paid vacation, paid holidays and health, life and dental insurance.
