Chief Frego was appointed to the position of Chief of Police by the St John Police Commission in June of 2004. He is a 13 year resident of St John with 28 years of Law Enforcement experience.
He is a graduate of Calumet College of St Joseph with a Bachelors Degree in Law Enforcement Administration, a graduate of the Illinois Police Academy at University of Illinois, Champaign and a graduate of the 75th Class of the Northwestern University Police Staff and Command School.
Chief Frego served for over 25 years as a member of the Dolton Police Department in Dolton, Illinois where he served as Assistant Chief of Police, Commander of the Investigative Division, Tactical Division and Patrol Commander during his tenure. He retired from that department in 2000.
Prior to his appointment as Chief of the St John Department, he was an Executive Supervisor with the State of Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for 4 years. In addition to his formal education and experience, Chief Frego has specialized training in multi-faceted Law Enforcement and Administrative Programs over his 28 year career. Chief Frego is pleased to serve as Chief of Police in the Town where he has resided for 13 years.

Joined the St. John Police Department in 1976. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Calumet College of St Joseph and is Certified as a Police Instructor for many different programs and topics. He also a graduate of the Staff and Command School conducted through Northwest University, a graduate of Sniper - Observer School.
He has served as Chief of Police in St. John and currently serves as the Assistant Chief of Police. He heads up all criminal investigations, is the Firearm Instructor and is a Certified Instructor for ILEA. He holds two martial arts ranks; 5th degree black belt in Tai Kwon Do and a 1st degree black belt in Shorei Go Ju.

Joined the St. John Police Department in 1990. He served five years in Dolton, Illinois as a Patrol Officer, Detective Division Tactical Officer and a member of their S.W.A.T. team. Commander Fryzel is a graduate of Northwestern University Police School of Staff and Command and is a State Certified Instructor.
Commander Fryzel is the Patrol Commander and the Drug Interdiction Unit Commander. He is a team member of and Instructor for First Responders Tactical Unit for Active Shooter Incidents.

Joined the St. John Police Department in 1975. He attended Purdue Calumet College prior to his service in the Army which included his tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968-1969, wherein he attained the rank of Sergeant . He is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and of the Northwest University of Police Staff and Command.
He has attended numerous seminars and conferences during his 31 years Law Enforcement career and has held the assignments of Field Evidence Technician, Purchasing Agent, Shift Supervisor, Field Training Officer, Assistant Range Officer, Coordinator of the St John Drivers Education Program, Supervisor of Police Vehicle Maintenance, Supervisor of Building Maintenance, Supervisor of Dispatch, Datamaster Operator and Pension Secretary. He was named a Generalist Instructor by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Commander Chapranda has held the ranks of Patrolman, Corporal, Sergeant and is currently Services Division Commander.

Rick was hired on January 1, 1976 and has been serving the residents of St. John for nearly 32 years. In 1971, Rick graduated Hanover Central High School in Cedar Lake, Indiana and then attended Indiana Law Enforcement in 1977. Rick is a Certified Field Training Officer and a Certified Chemical Test Operator. He oversees daily activities of the patrol division.

Corporal Demeter graduated from Northwest University school of Police Staff and Command and is a State Certified Instructor. He currently serves as Supervisor in the department's Patrol Division.

Corporal Gardenhire is an Indiana State Certified Emergency Vehicle Operation Instructor for the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Indiana University Northwest, and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield Indiana. He is a Certified Physical Fitness Specialist through the Cooper Institute of Aerobics Research in Dallas, Texas.

Joined the St. John Police Department in 1995 after serving 6 years with the Cedar Lake Police. He is a graduate of Lake Central High School, a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police and Staff Command and continued his education at Indiana University Northwest.
He is a Certified Law Enforcement Instructor with the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board. He served as a D.A.R.E. Officer for 6 years and a Police K-9 Handler with his dog Falko for 10 years. He was instrumental in establishing and organizing the St John Police Reserve Program where he serves as Reserve Supervisor. Corporal Poston is currently a Supervisor in the Departments Patrol Division, the Departments Training Coordinator, Field Training Officer Supervisor.

Joined the Department in 1999 as a Reserve Officer and was a hired as a full-time St John Police Department Officer in 2000.. Jay served as an Officer in Riverdale, Illinois as a member of the Community Research Center and worked as a Tactical Officer.
Corporal Dahlin graduated from the Illinois Police Academy, from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and in 2006 graduated from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
He is currently a Supervisor for the Departments Patrol Division, a Field Training Officer, Certified Breath Operator, a Certified All Terrain Vehicle Operator, he serves as the Technology Officer and is a member of the Lake County Drunk Driving Task Force.

Corporal Turturillo graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelors of Science in Management and in 1997, he graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He is a certified D.A.R.E. Officer and is an Instructor for I.L.E.A.

He is a 1996 graduate of Lake Central High School.
Officer Adams has been a member of the Lake Hills Fire Department since 1995 and currently serves as Assistant Chief and as an EMT.

Joined the St. John Police Department in 1984. He graduated from Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1982. He holds two degrees; an Associate of Science from Calumet College in Law Enforcement and a Bachelor of Science in public affairs from Indiana University Northwest.
In August of 2000, Eric was assigned to the Lake Central High School as the School Resource Officer. In June 2003, Officer Andersen was assigned back to Patrol and received an award for Officer of the Year. He currently serves as a Field Training Officer and is one of two D.A.R.E. Officers at the Kolling School.

Joined the Department as a Reserve Officer in 2001 and became a full time Officer in 2004, after serving one year with the Lake County Sheriffs Department. Officer Flores graduated from the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and holds a degree in Law Enforcement from Vincennes University.
Officer Flores recently graduated from Police K-9 Training school and has a new K-9 partner named Ork. He is also assigned to the Departments Drug Interdiction Unit, ATV Unit and is a member of the Lake County D.U.I. Task Force. He is a State Certified Fire Fighter and a Lieutenant with the Lake Hills Fire Department.

Joined the Department as a Reserve Officer in 2003 and became a full time Officer in 2005. Officer Moffitt graduated from the Plainfield Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in August 2005. He is a life long resident of Lake County and a 1988 graduate of Hammond Baptist High School. Prior to his career in law enforcement, Officer Moffitt worked 14 years as a bricklayer and member of the International Bricklayers Union Local 4, Merrillville chapter 6.
Since 1999, Officer Moffitt has been a member of the St. John Fire Department where he holds the rank of Lieutenant and serves as an EMT and Pumper Operator Instructor. He is also certified at the Operations Level in Hazardous Materials.

Joined the St. John Police Department in 1989 after serving the Cedar Lake Police Department for 7 years. He is a graduate of Calumet College with a degree in Law Enforcement and is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
Officer Rudzinski belongs to the Indiana Division of International Association of Identification and is the Chairman of the Lake County Traffic Safety Council. He has served as a K-9 Handler, reactivating the K-9 Unit in 1991 with his dog Alex (now retired). He started the D.A.R.E. Program in the St. John Schools.
Currently he is a Field Training Officer, Field Evidence Technician, a Traffic Safety Coordinator and writes Grant applications for the Department. In December of 2006, Officer Rudzinski became a Detective.

Joined the St. John Police Department as a Reserve Officer in 1997 and was hired as a full-time Officer in 2000. Prior joining the St John Department, Brett served as Town Marshall in Schneider, Indiana. Brett attended Vincennes University and Indiana University where he received degrees in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy-Gary and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy-Plainfield.
Officer Sidenbender is a Certified Medical Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician, State-Certified Firefighter and a Fire and Explosion Investigator. In 1999, he completed the FBI's Observer-Sniper program. In 2002 Brett attended the Department of Homeland Security's WMD School at Fort McClellan, AL. and became a Certified Instructor in Weapons of Mass Destruction Tactical Operations.
He is a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Evidence Technician and Coordinator for obtaining free equipment through the military for counterdrug operations. Brett is very active in the DUI and Drug Interdiction Task Forces.

Officer Stamate is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and graduated from Porter Memorial Hospital as a certified EMT in 1994. He worked for the Lake Central School Corporation as a Security Supervisor for three years where he handled in-school investigations and school security operations for the entire school corporation.
Officer Stamate became a Reserve Officer in June of 2001 and became a full time Police Officer for the Town of St. John in January of 2005.

Joined the St. John Police Department in 1977, was promoted to Corporal in 2002 and after 29 years of service he retired in September of 2006. He graduated from Lake Central High School in 1971 and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology from Indiana State University in 1976.
During his 29 years of service he spent the last 15 in Juvenile investigations and as Officer Friendly. In December 2006, Corporal Conaway became a Reserve Officer with the Department so he can continue his duties as Officer Friendly.
In January of 2007, Officer Conaway accepted the position of Animal Control Officer for the Town of St John. His goals are to provide more efficient services to our citizens. His duties will include ensuring that pets are licensed with the Town.
Officer Conaway has been active in the community, serving the Park Board 5 years, (3 years as President) and a member of St. John Youth Baseball during which time he founded the St. John Babe Ruth League and the 12 year old 4th of July Baseball Tournament. Rick umpired for the SJYB League along with being an I.H.S.A.A. Basketball Official since 1976. Fishing on Lake Michigan and gardening are Rick's hobbies.
